Disclosure: Gold-fill is a layer of 14k gold over a base metal, thicker than gold-plating and generally more durable. It is an economical alternative solid gold, but a challenging material to work with. Fabrication of a ring involves flame and clean-up, which can remove the gold layer in spots exposing the base metal underneath. All gold-fill sample sale items have been photographed to show the tarnish of the base metal — which I find charming in the wabi-sabi spirit— and priced accordingly.
